The
recent ADF Track and Field championships saw records tumble over
three days of competition at the John Landy track in Geelong,
Victoria.
Held in conjunction with the Victorian Country championships,
the ADF competition attracted a small but dedicated contingent
and produced some outstanding results.
In the women’s events, CAPT Dee-Anne Jackson (Army) broke the
ADF championship record for the 100 metres, 200 metres and 400
metres with times of 12.73 sec, 25.69 sec and 58.83 sec respectively.
CAPT Jo-Anne Hem (Army) broke the ADF championship record in the
3000m with a time of 11.50 min.
In the men’s events, Navy’s SBLT Rowan Walker ran a scorching
14.59 min for the 5000 metres to set a new ADF record while 40-year-old
CPL Gary Ewart (RAAF) set new benchmarks in the Veteran’s 400
metres 53.89 sec) and 800 metres (2.04 min).
SGT Rob Combe (Army) took 42 seconds off the Men’s Veteran 3000
metres Steeplechase record with a time of 10.43 min.
CPO Andrew Hart (Navy) set a new Men’s Veteran 200m record in
a time of 25.87 secs. Other notable performances came from CPL
Amy Hall (Army) who entered no less than nine events, taking Gold
in the Javelin, Shot Put and Discus and placing in several others.
CAPT Anne Bortolussi (Army) entered six events, taking gold in
the Women’s Open 800m, 1500m and 3000m and Defence civilian Eugene
Suchcicki who entered five events in the Master’s age group taking
gold in four.
CAPT Rory Hale (Army) took out the Men’s Open 100m (11.82 sec)
and Long Jump (5.61m) double.
