The HMAS Harman Hogs Australian Rules football club is geared
up to attack this year with the premiership squarely in their
sights.
“We’re going to be as competitive as we can,” coach Paul James
said, ready to tackle his second year with the Hogs. “We don’t
play to come second.”
The club plays in the Monaro Australian Football League and
James said as a result of last year’s results his main focus
this season will be fitness.
“We had many injuries which cost us a few games last year.
One loss was against Belconnen who went on to take the premiership,”
James said.
“Consequently, we hope to be a lot fitter and stronger this
year.”
Also promising to lift the Harman Hogs from the disappointment
of last year’s injuryplagued season is the introduction of FLGOFF
Ian Firns, who joins the Hogs this year from the ADFA side.
“He’s seen the light and come over,” James said.
With last season’s best and fairest award winner Josh Parsons
from Queanbeyan returning this year and best and fairest runner-up
Michael Killeen from Russell Offices filling the boots of assistant
coach, James is undaunted in the face of the season opener against
the Australian National University on April 9.
The club trains at Harman from 6pm Tuesdays and Thursdays.
