Canberra girl Gemma Gibbons of Copland College has embarked on a 12-month adventure of a lifetime to The Netherlands. She has been chosen as one of the Defence and AFS International Program scholarship winners.

Gibbons, the daughter of CMDR Daniel Gibbons (Deputy Director Theatre Command), was presented with a certificate of achievement and a phone card by RADM Brian Adams in a small ceremony attended by her family and close friends.

“I can’t wait to go,” Gibbons told Navy News at the ceremony.

“I still don’t believe I got it and I’m proud as all hell.”

Defence awards four scholarships each year to children of Defence members.

Later this year scholarship winners from the Army, Air Force and the Defence civilian workforce will also travel overseas.
