Meet
the billy cart birdies.
A group of aviation technicians attached to 817 Squadron have
built a racing billy cart.
As our image shows, it is like the Sea King helicopters they maintain
at HMAS Albatross.
As Navy News was going to press the sailors and their cart were
heading to Melbourne to take part in the Red Bull Billy Cart Race.
This involves a timed run down Lansdowne Street, Melbourne.
The 817 entry is one of scores in the event. Should the Navy team
come away with a monetary prize they will donate it to the Defence
Special Needs Support Group. Administrator for the team is LEUT
Nick Kous.
Those who built the cart or are in support, are LSATA Angus Dale,
ABATA Steven Lonton, ABATA Adrian Hanel, ABATV Garry Danaher and
ABATV Daniel Wiatrowski.
“Steve Lonton will drive the cart,” LEUT Nick Kous told Navy News.
“The cart has three wheels, just like a Sea King.
It is made from metal and fibreglass,” he said.
The cart had just come out of the paint shop when Albatross photographer,
LS Brad Fullerton caught up with the team and its vehicle.
