Chief
of China’s PLA GEN Liang with CMDR Neil Wark, HMAS Cairns.

The
Australian Defence Force has hosted a visit “down under” by the
Chief of the General Staff of China’s People’s Liberation Army,
GEN Liang Guang Lie.
GEN Liang along with 11 other senior officers and aides, flew
into Sydney from the United States on November 3 for a six day
visit.
This was the first time the Chief of the PLA had visited Australia.
The tour took in Sydney, Canberra, Cairns and Darwin. Among the
first to be visited was Maritime Headquarters.
The MHQ auditorium was used by the Deputy Chief of the Defence
Force, VADM Russ Shalders to welcome GEN Liang.
The Maritime Commander, RADM Rowan Moffitt joined in the welcome.
On November 6 the General visited HMAS Cairns where he was hosted
by the Commanding Officer, CMDR Niel Wark.
Accompanying the General were Her Excellency Mme Fu Ying Ambassador
of the People’s Republic of China to Australia, VADM Zhang Zhannan
Commander of the North Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, AIRMSHL Li Maifu
Vice Commander of the PLA Air Force and LTGEN Hu Yongzhu director
of the political department of the Chengdu Military Region.
The General’s is also touring New Zealand.
