The
Australian Services Rugby Union (ASRU) Warriors returned to Australia
this month, undefeated their tour of North America with just 63
points scored against them.
The team first met Young Canada on October 8 in Canada, defeating
the home side 22-15.
The Warriors lost winger CPL Aaron Cimbaljevic with a broken foot
in the first five minutes of the game which Warriors’ skipper
CAPT Ben Rayward described “extremely physical”.
The Warriors then journeyed to Annapolis, USA where they beat
the US Naval Academy 35-17.
CPL Joe Rains and LS Chris Bohan were sidelined temporarily with
head gashes early in the match, though this did nothing to slow
the Warriors’ advance.
Traveling to the nations’ capital, the Warriors took on the Washington
Rugby Football Club on October 16, running out easy winners 47-19.
Front rower SPR Shaun Richardson shone, receiving the player’s
player vote as the Australians steamrolled the Americans with
tries to LS Bohan, LAC Brenden Christensen, CPL Paul Yates, CPL
Ben Jones, TPR Gerard Kelly, CPL Monson and 6 conversions to PO
Andrew Thorpe.
The Warriors then went to make easy work of the Back Bay Rugby
Football club in Newport, with an 80- point win, 92-12.
CAPT Rayward and Army flanker CFN Fraser shared the award for
player of the tour and Fraser was voted player’s player.
