Over
the last few years, the management and administration of the Naval
Reserve (NR) has undergone considerable change.
One of those changes is the creation of the Naval Reserve Initial
Entry Training Team (NRIETT) which comes under the umbrella of
the Training Authority – Initial Training Leadership and Management
(TA-ITLM) based at HMAS Creswell.
The days of Reserves training Reserves are gone.
The team will ensure that the level and type of training received
by Reserves closely resembles that received by their Permanent
Navy (PN) counterparts and, wherever possible, is delivered by
existing PN instructors at PN training facilities.
This accords with the totally integrated work force concept and
will provide the steps necessary for future employment.
The NRIETT will administer all Reserve initial entry training
for officers and sailors and assist Reserve personnel to progress
smoothly through the various phases of training prior to commencing
their category course or initial posting.
A priority action of the team centres on identifying NR personnel
who have yet to complete initial entry training.
Personnel will be mentored by the team to finalise the distance
learning modules so that remaining residential training can be
completed.
The team will supplement both HMAS Creswell, and the Recruit School
HMAS Cerberus, with divisional staff during residential courses.
This will take some of the burden off school staff and will allow
the NRIETT divisional staff to introduce the NR recruits to some
of the unique requirements of the Reserve such as diaries, and
NR business rules for part time employment.
The Team comprises:
