From Bradfield Park to the steps of the Sydney Opera House, five RAN personnel have run the 10km in blistering speed.

On September 12, SMNCD Steven McDonald, ABCD Billy Barnetson, ABCD Geoff Lack, SMNCD Paul Mason and ABCD Benjamin Vears from Clearance Diving Team One, set off in the Sunday Telegraph’s 10km Harbour Bridge Fun Run.

Starting at Bradfield Park, Milsons Point, runners travelled across the Harbour Bridge and down the Cahill Expressway, through into the Botanical Gardens and along Macquarie Street to finish at the steps of the Opera House.

With only the top three finishers in each team going to the teams’ final results, SMNCD McDonald, first in around 42 mins, ABCD Barnetson and ABCD Lack, all finished impressively within the top 180 competitors, out of almost 10,000 entrants.

The Blackmores Sydney Marathon Festival, held in September each year, was originally designed to mark the anniversary of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Incorporating three different events, the 42km Marathon, the Half Marathon and the Sunday Telegraph 10km Fun Run, it is the only time that participants are able to cross the Harbour Bridge free from traffic.

Members of Team One will compete next month in the Triple Triathlon in Canberra.
