An AFL star has found out first-hand the rough and tumble he’s used to on the field can occur in the skies.

Brisbane Lions’ Jason Akermanis and cancer survivor Carolyn Wagner took a 45-minute aerobatic flight over Brisbane with the Roulettes’ on August 15 to promote the Queensland Cancer Fund’s (QCF) Daffodil Day, which raises funds for cancer research, patient support and education programs.

Akers, who’s used to flipping upside down to do a handstand and kiss the turf, saw from the air the Gabba that he has pecked.

He and Ms Wagner also saw Suncorp Stadium, Stradbroke Island and Ms Wagner’s home at Loganholme, south of Brisbane.

Mr Akermanis’s comment to Roulettes members afterwards was telling: he didn’t realise the pressure that flying puts on your body.

Ms Wagner described the experience as “awesome”.

She was offered the flight through her involvement with QCF’s Seize the Day program, a support group for teenagers who have had cancer.
