Fundraising
for children’s medical research, the annual Jeans for Genes day,
proved an outstanding success around the country and particularly
in Sydney.
A total of $875 was raised in Sydney.
A group of US soldiers, sailors and airmen even joined in digging
deep into their pockets to support the fundraiser.
The US personnel joined uniformed and civilian members from Maritime
Headquarters, HMAS Kuttabul, FIMA/ Sydney and Australian Theatre
on the lawns of Australian Theatre on August 6 for the function.
Officers and sailors who normally wear winter rig came to work
in jeans, brightly coloured shirts and for some, riding boots.
Event organiser, LS Gail Ladbrook of MHQ said, “Woolworths Potts
Point were marvellous.
“They sold us a 100 person barbecue pack for $116.
“The barbecue was scheduled to commence at 11.30am and go until
1.30pm.
“We had sold out by 12.20pm,” she said.
“We raised money through the sale of Jeans for Genes badges and
the sale of food.”
The money will now be banked through Westpac into the account
of the Children’s Medical Research Institute.
