Unfortuately
for the Stirling sailor involved in the August 14 accident,
the car was a write-off.

A sailor from HMAS Stirling was lucky to escape unscathed from
an accident between the member’s vehicle and a metal light post
on Garden Island in the early hours of Saturday August 14.
Unfortunately for the sailor, the car is a write off and uninsured.
Furthermore, the member is facing DUI charges and will most likely
be making reparation of several thousand dollars for a replacement
light pole.
Should the member be convicted of the DUI charges, administrative
consequences are likely to follow.
This incident begs the question of one and all: “Have you thought
through the consequences of drink driving?”
CO HMAS Stirling CMDR Phil Orchard, makes no apologies (as featured
in Navy News of March 25, 2004) about the base’s hard stance on
those stupid enough to drink and drive or use excessive speed.
During the months of July and early August, Stirling based NPCs
issued some 57 warnings and banned one serving member and one
civilian’s vehicle for a period of 28 days.
WA Police have issued 14 traffic infringements that will result
in fines and award of demerit points.
CMDR Orchard went on to say that the roads on Garden Island are
subject to the WA road rules.
HMAS Stirling’s NPCs and the WA Police Service enforce these rules
and penalties will be applied to those who break the law, be it
Service or civilian offenders.
Stay alive and don’t become another statistic.
