Personnel
from HMAS Ballarat happily pose for a photo with Esther
Williams.

It
seems “that woman”, Esther Williams, has settled in to the wardroom
on HMAS Ballarat, or so the ship’s company believes.
“This Wardroom is the best yet to carry me with honour,” she’s
declared. Esther, the framed image that is, and subject of recent
headlines in Navy News and a forthcoming documentary, was taken
from the Albatross wardroom a few weeks ago.
Someone left a step ladder lying around making it very easy for
two Ballarat sub-lieutenants to lift her from the wardroom bulkhead.
Before heading north to Fleet Base East, Esther called in at Creswell
and the Aviation Museum.
Then it was on to McDonalds for a “McHappy meal”.
Since arriving on Ballarat she has been embraced by all members
and enjoys the growing attention of many a young officer.
When asked how long she planned to stay on the frigate she declared
she had no plans to move on.
Esther said that while she enjoys travel, there will be no signalled
appearances in the near future.
Meanwhile many of the ship’s company have posed for a photograph
with Esther.
In addition the ship’s battle shield now carries her name.
