FAHRENHEIT
9/11, for all the hype it has received, certainly lives up
to expectations, but it is simply just another person’s version
of the truth.
Writer, director and producer Michael Moore arms his documentary
with some startling facts, and fires them directly at those
inclined to oppose the Republican movement.
The facts are that a number of known Bin Laden supporters
were allowed out of the US two days after the September 11
hijackings and Saudi Arabians had an overwhelmings.
monetary interest in American oil companies owned by senior
members of the Bush administration.
Add to this a few allegations of cover-ups and fear mongering
and an absolute media frenzy that further fuelled the feeling
of terror throughout US and the world.
Moore pitches a curve ball with tasteless images of dead mothers
and maimed children intermingled with out-of-context quotes
from over-enthusiastic US soldiers.
And if by then he hasn’t torn at your heartstrings enough,
Moore introduces the former patriot mother of a US solider,
who takes her anguish all the way to the White House.
Amidst all the mayhem, there are sprinklings of humour, for
example the peace-loving senior citizen biscuit eaters interrogated
by the secret service for suspected terrorist leanings.
This is by no means a clichéd look at the one of the most
serious issues of our time.
It is hard-hitting and hard to ignore and typical from Michael
Moore.
Let’s just hope there is still a happily ever after.
