Australian sailors from HMAS Geelong and students from the Meleai School in the Solomons found some common ground on a recent visit.

AB Tiro and AB Hardwick told the students about their experiences and how the Australian Navy had become involved in RAMSI.

The students found AB Tiro to be of particular interest, as he transferred from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force to the Australian Navy only two years ago.

AB Tiro found common understanding with the group by conversing in Pijin.

Also discussed was the importance of education, and how knowledge helps promote understanding and cooperation.

A highlight of the day was a visit by 32 selected Meleai students and six teachers to HMAS Geelong.

The CO of HMAS Geelong, LCDR Bill Triffitt said the visit had been successful in fostering understanding between students of Meleai School and RAMSI.
