Australian
music star Sophie Monk has just completed a short trip to the
Middle East, entertaining Australian Defence Force personnel deployed
to the region.
Sophie, formerly a member of the band Bardot and currently promoting
her solo album Calendar Girl, flew from Australia to the Middle
East as part of the Forces Advisory Committee for Entertainment
(FACE) program designed to bring famous Australian faces to the
field to entertain troops.
“It has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I’m
so proud of the ADF guys and girls I’ve met over here.
They’re working under difficult conditions,” Sophie said.
“My mother came up with the idea of going to the Middle East for
some gigs with the military. I’m so glad I could help keep the
troops happy.”
Sophie’s tour was judged a success by deployed Australian troops
currently serving in Iraq and the Middle East as part of Operation
Catalyst – Australia’s contribution to the rehabilitation and
reconstruction of Iraq.
In recent years, FACE has organised a range of top Australian
entertainers to play for the troops in the Middle East, East Timor
and the Solomon Islands.
Previous concerts have featured Kylie Minogue, John Farnham and
