Plentiful supplies to be found in Eden

Parramatta became the first major fleet unit to be loaded up with ammunition at the new depot near Eden on the NSW South Coast.

HMAS Parramatta has become the first major fleet unit to conduct an ammunitioning at JALO’s new East Coast Ammunitioning Depot at Twofold Bay near Eden on the NSW South Coast.

ADI facility manager Mr Greg Stroud, a former WOUC, made sure that despite the cold and blustery weather, Parramatta (CMDR Mike Noonan) received a warm welcome.

Parramatta embarked a large quantity of guided and unguided ordnance in preparation for her pre-RIMPAC workup and RIMPAC deployment.

The highlights were taking aboard a substantial number of Nulka Active Missile Decoys and Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles, including some telemetry “birds” that will be fired during RIMPAC.

The Twofold Bay depot proved to be an excellent facility for the conduct of the complex ammunitioning evolution.

Although the weather conditions were unpleasant, with sleet falling in the surrounding foothills, the berth was well sheltered and there was excellent access for all cranage and lorries.

Several weeks of careful planning came together on the day with the ADI Twofold Bay contractors, support staff and the ship’s company meeting all challenges presented to them.
