Six claim birthday honours


The Governor-General, MAJGEN Michael Jeffery, has announced that six members of the Navy have been awarded Orders of Australia in this week’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

The new Maritime Commander, RADM Rowan Moffitt, and CDRE Paul Greenfield become Members of the Order. RADM Moffitt’s commendation recognises his exceptional service to the Navy and the ADF as Director General Navy Capability Performance and Plans, Commandant of the ADF Warfare Centre and as Deputy Chief of Navy.

An engineering officer, CDRE Greenfield receives his AM for serving as Submarine Project Director, Director General Undersea Warfare Systems and Director General Maritime Development.

Among those awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia is the Director of Music, LCDR Phillip Anderson.

Also awarded the Medal are WO Robert Bohm, WO Mark Dixon and WO Ross McRae.

WO Bohm is recognised for outstanding service as Fleet Warrant Officer Cook in the National Sea Training Group.

WO Dixon’s Medal is for meritorious service in the field of submarine engineering. WO McRae received his Medal for meritorious service to the Navy as a Combat System Manager in numerous key sea and shore postings since 1992. The Conspicuous Service Cross is awarded to five RAN people:

  • WO Richard Bisset, for outstanding achievement as senior Marine Technician in HMAS Newcastle during Operations Relex, Slipper and Catalyst

  • CMDR Martin Brooker, for outstanding performance as Commander of Task Group 636.1 in the Solomon Islands

  • CAPT Mark Campbell, for his contribution as Director, Naval Aviation Project Office, Defence Materiel Organisation managing the Super Sea Sprite acquisition

  • CDRE Karel de Laat, for outstanding achievement, fine leadership and tireless dedication as Director General Reserves – Navy

  • CMDR Elizabeth Rushbrook, for her achievement as Medical Officer-in- Charge, Balmoral Naval Hospital, HMAS Penguin, and OIC of the Primary Casualty Receiving Facility. Two officers are awarded the Conspicuous Service Medal:

  • WO Fiona Kearney, for outstanding service as Personnel Officer at HMAS Kuttabul and

  • CMDR Michael Spruce, for outstanding service in naval operations as Director of Maritime Intelligence.
