For
SMN Harley Ahearn who joined the Navy straight from school, life
at sea on board HMAS Labuan has been an occasion to remember.
Recently Harley turned 18 and unlike most his age celebrated his
birthday in port at Honiara.
Harley’s deployment to Operation Anode in the Solomon Islands
is not only his first deployment but also the first time he has
been to sea. The CO of HMAS Labuan LCDR Muller remarked:
“I heard him get quite excited when we left Australia and he could
no longer see the coast line”.
Harley said it was certainly one birthday he would never “forget”.
