Freedom
for Tarakan
Bowen
residents saw pomp and ceremony on Friday, April 23, when the officers
and crew of landing craft HMAS Tarakan received Freedom of Entry
to the city.
Navy personnel, Bowen and regional police, Bowen’s mayor, councillors,
chief executive officer and staff, school children and residents
saw the parade march up Herbert Street from the front beach with
“swords drawn, colours flying and in full regalia”.
During the ceremony, a scroll was handed to the captain and, in
return, Bowen received a plaque.
For all concerned it was a day to remember.
