Wading
into battle
As
a chill, grey dawn broke over the English Channel on June 6, 1944,
about 300 Australian officers and men in Royal Navy ships and
boats were able to take a breather from the last few days’ heaving,
violent seas and squalling rain.

the 21st century, the Mayor of Fremantle, Peter Tagliaferri, has

Garden
Island lights up ...up and away
The Cruiser Wharf at Garden Island in Sydney became a helicopter
launch pad with a difference a few days ago. Park Air 2, a Bolko
helicopter operated by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
alighted on the wharf before carrying a restored 90-year-old lighthouse
out to Fort Denison, the historic island fort in the centre of
Sydney Harbour.

Sea King pilot LEUT Simon Hook found “enough room to swing a cat”
the other day. Simon and his crew had been asked by the NSW National
Parks and Wildlife Service to lift a 2.2 tonne Bobcat from the
carpark at Palm Beach in Sydney’s north to a grass clearing beside
the historic Barrenjoey Lighthouse 100 metres above the sand.
