OH&S practices commended

By LEUT Joanne MacKintosh

The RAN’s Training Authority- Submarines (TA-SM) based at HMAS Stirling has been awarded a “five star” grading for its ongoing commitment to achieving “world best practice” in the management of occupational health and safety.

A comprehensive audit conducted by the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) in March confirmed an overall performance level of 97 per cent.

The council awarded TA-SM (CMDR Stuart Wheeler) the NSCA Five Star Grading and Quality Assurance accreditation.

The audit also recognised TASM as a front line organisation in conformance to maintaining world best practice by awarding an NSCA Outstanding Performance Award for 2003.

The award of a Five Star Grading by NSCA is a first for the Navy.

The senior NSCA auditor, Mr Bruce Ingle praised staff for their “pro-active commitment to workplace safety”.
