Eight
RAN members were recently awarded for their outstanding contribution
in promoting Maritime activities including acts of bravery in
search and rescue.
The Ambassador of France Mr Patrick Henault, presented the French
Ordre du Merite Maritime awards at the French Ambassador’s residence
on February 23.
Award recipients from the RAN included Maritime Commander RADM
Raydon Gates, LCDR Robert Cull, LCDR Arthur Heather, LEUT Frank
Scott, LCDR John May, LCDR David Wright, Mr Glen Hewlett (ex LEUT)
and CMDR Anthony Ladomirski.
The recipients, including seven RAAF members, were involved in
the rescue of French sailors Raphael Dinelli and Thierry Dubois,
along with British sailor Tony Bullimore during the 1997 Vendee
Globe solo round the world yacht race.
