Nuship Ballarat has already forged strong links with her namesake city.

Earlier this month, members of Ballarat’s ship’s company led the annual Begonia festival in the City of Ballarat, accompanied by the RAAF Central band.

Ballarat’s two main passageways will carry the names and street signs of the two major streets of Ballarat, Sturt and Lydiard Streets.

Last month Mayor of Ballarat, Cr David Vendy presented the signs to CO CMDR Hunter at the Tenix shipyards.

CMDR Hunter said he was delighted to receive the street signs, which would be just one of the links, albeit an important one, between the ship and the City and Shire of Ballarat.

He added that he looked forwardv to developing the relationship between the ship and city.

One of the roles he sees for Ballarat is as a floating ambassador for Ballarat and its surrounding region.

“We will take pride in representing the Ballarat area to locations we visit around the world.”
