Divisions
at HMAS Cairns late last month produced a sea of white uniforms.

Watched
by civic leaders, family members and friends, more than 200 officers
and sailors attached to HMAS Cairns and the ships home ported
there, participated in Divisions late last month.
The Maritime Commander, RADM Raydon Gates attended the ceremony
and reviewed the personnel.
He also addressed them and handed out a number of personal and
unit awards.
A detachment of the RAN Band also attended.
Among the VIPs to attend was the Mayor of Cairns, CLR Kevin Byrne,
senior officers of the Queensland emergency services, RSL representatives
and members of the Corvettes Association.
A morning tea followed the parade at which a cheque from the base
was handed to Legacy. In the afternoon RADM Gates boarded the
landing craft HMAS Labuan under the command of LCDR Donna Muller
and travelled down Trinity Inlet.
Three sister landing craft accompanied her. The four went to Townsville
to load vehicles, stores and equipment to be joined by a fifth
LCH for training with the Army at the Cowley Beach Military Training
Area.
The five ships were Labuan, Tarakan (LCDR Mark Willmore), Wewak
(LCDR Etienne Mulder), Brunei (LEUT Byron Williamson) and Betano
(LCDR Terrence O’Connor).
