The Maritime Commander, RADM Raydon Gates attended the ceremony and reviewed the personnel.

He also addressed them and handed out a number of personal and unit awards.

Among the VIPs to attend was the Mayor of Cairns, CLR Kevin Byrne, senior officers of the Queensland emergency services, RSL representatives and members of the Corvettes Association.

A morning tea followed the parade at which a cheque from the base was handed to Legacy. In the afternoon RADM Gates boarded the landing craft HMAS Labuan under the command of LCDR Donna Muller and travelled down Trinity Inlet.

Three sister landing craft accompanied her. The four went to Townsville to load vehicles, stores and equipment to be joined by a fifth LCH for training with the Army at the Cowley Beach Military Training Area.

The five ships were Labuan, Tarakan (LCDR Mark Willmore), Wewak (LCDR Etienne Mulder), Brunei (LEUT Byron Williamson) and Betano (LCDR Terrence O’Connor).
