Movie Review

Lightweight film fails to travel in style
Travelling Light

Stars Pia Miranda, Brett Stiller, Sacha Horler. Rated M. Magna Pacific

Reviewer :: Lt Simone Heyer

During some films, you find yourself wondering what they're about, where the plot is going and why you haven't flicked it off.

Travelling Light was one of these films. Set in the early '70s, it examines the ideals of Australians at that time.

It stars some great Aussie actors, but as far as appreciation goes, that's the end of it.

Sisters Leanne (Miranda) and Bronwyn (Horler) come from a normal Aussie family. When they were young Dad would take them to the airport to watch planes as enjoyment. Mum has a few issues, which Bron has inherited, so when Bron's husband takes her to Broken Hill for his teaching job - forcing her to stop work - she finds the isolation too much. Leanne's first love is photography.

Her parents want her to have a safe profession like teaching, but she is too free-spirited.

This film is about young people finding out who they really are, despite social conventions. It's light, but not film-of-the-year material.
