A
group of Kindergarten and Year One students from Kangaroo Valley
Public School, led by teacher Mr Max Vucic visited HMAS Albatross
in October.
The students, who have been studying transport, were very excited
to visit the Naval Air Station as the base is identified as an
important transportation facility in the area.
They were able to look over an S-70B-2 Seahawk Helicopter from
816 Squadron (CMDR) before witnessing a pair of F/A-18 fighter
jets take off in support of President George W. Bushs visit
to Australia.
The children then visited the Fire Section climbing aboard a fire
truck and watching a water cannon display.
LCDR Marc Ware from the Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Trials
Unit (AMAFTU) escorted the students during their visit.
LCDR Ware is the father of Harrison, one of the Year One students
participating in the visit.
On conclusion of their visit to the base, the children continued
their day with a bus trip to the Lady Denman Museum in Huskisson
before returning to Bomaderry for a train trip to Berry.
Although a long day for the six and seven year olds, it was very
rewarding and may influence their views on transport for many
years to come.
