The
Navy certainly keeps its eye on the environment.
Only three months ago HMAS Bunbury (LCDR Andy Schroder) rescued
two small turtles from a drifting ghost net. Now shes has
done it again.
While patrolling north of Bathurst and Melville Islands, Bunburys
sharp-eyed lookout, LSBM Adam Furphy, spotted a floating net.
On hauling the net inboard, two large green turtles, each weighing
approximately 40 kg, were found, successfully cut from the net
and freed.
