Commander of Northern Command (COMNORCOM) AIRCDRE Steve Walker recently gained a feel for the sharp end of an Operation Relex patrol.

HMAS Launceston (LCDR Paul Koerber) welcomed AIRCDRE Walker on board during a recent patrol.

“My main purpose for the visit was to see the operation first hand, and to also get feedback from the ship’s company,” AIRCDRE Walker said.

“There was also a clear element of teamwork amongst all members of the crew.”

Operation Relex and Operation Cranberry are the two main operations for the northern based patrol boats.

“It was great having COMNORCOM on board to see the practical side of the operation and for him to be able to mix with the members of the ship’s company,” LCDR Koerber said.

AIRCDRE Walker said Operation Cranberry and Operation Relex continue to be a success for the ADF.

“I was able to join HMAS Launceston’s boarding party and watch them conduct a investigative boarding on a Type III fishing vessel,” AIRCDRE Walker said.

COMNORCOM thanked the company of HMAS Launceston for taking him on board and wished them all the best for the remainder of the year.

The Tassie Devil continues operations in the Top End in support of Operation Relex and Cranberry.
