Twilight racing gets underway

The RAN Sailing Association invites entries for the Friday Twilight Race Series to be held on Port Jackson.

The series will consist of races to be held every Friday evening from October 31, 2003, until March 26, 2004, with exception of Friday December 26, 2003 and January 2, 2004.

A point score competition will be run during the series for block entry yachts. The last three races of the series will not be point score. The races will be run with a scratch start.

It is intended that the yachts will race in three divisions. Starting times will be:

  • 1800 for No 3 Div (1730 for the last three races of series)
  • 1805 for No 2 Div (1735 for the last three races of series)
  • 1810 for No 1 Div (1740 for the last three races of series)

All races are open to any single-hull yacht on the register of a Yacht Club recognised by a National Authority.

Races will be conducted under the current International Sailing Federation racing rules of sailing (RRS 2001-2004), and special regulations of the AYF, class association regulations for one-class yachts and the series sailing instructions.

Spinnakers will not be permitted. All yachts must be skippered by a member of a recognised Yacht Club and must comply with AYF Special Regulations Part One.

Block entries for the series may be made by contacting the Secretary, RAN Sailing Association, New Beach Road Edgecliff 2027 by October 27.

Individual entries for single races may be made by submitting an entry form to the sailing office no later than 4.30pm on day of the race.

  • Entry fees will be:- Block entries $150.00 Individual entries $25.00

The start line and finish line will be in the vicinity of the entrance to Rushcutters Bay.

The courses will be approximately five to six nm but may be shortened. The committee vessel will be RANSA One or another flying the RANSA burgee.

The time limit will be five minutes before sunset or 8pm, whichever is earlier. Any boat failing to finish by the time limit will be scored “Did Not Finish”. A point score will be run in conjunction with the series for yachts which have made a block entry.

Ties will be resolved under a count back system. A prize will be awarded to the winner of each division each week. Second and third prizes may be awarded, depending on the number of starters. These prizes will be presented at the RANSA Clubhouse at the end of each race.

Trophies will be awarded at the end of the season. Before and after each race, skippers and crews are invited to the RANSA club-house, New Beach Road, Edgecliff.
