The
Harman Seadogs rugby league club celebrated another successful
season culminating in the annual presentation night held recently
at the Hotel Heritage in Canberra.
It was an opportunity to thank all involved in the team’s success
during the year, and to recognise some outstanding contributions
by players and supporters. The evening was compared by life member
Steve McCarthy (ex-CPOCIS), also representing ADI Limited, one
of the team’s several new sponsors.
It was a rewarding evening for newcomer Ben Hagel who not only
secured ADI’s Players Player award, but also won the prestigious
Honeywell Player of the Year trophy.
Old faces at the club also featured prominently with veteran Gavin
Smith winning the Allied Technologies Group defensive award for
the second successive year. During the season, Gavin broke the
club record for most games played, eclipsing the previous long
standing record of 149 set by club legend Freddie Driscoll.
The award for Best Service Player was hotly contested with the
spoils eventually going to LSET Scott Taylor, who was also the
team’s leading point scorer for the season.
Scott then presented the President’s Award to LEUT Ty Douglas,
for Ty’s outstanding contribution to the club in only his first
season with the Seadogs.
Statistician Richard Miskiewicz (ex-LSSIG) was also honoured for
his continuing outstanding level of support to Harman.
A final accolade for the evening occurred when secretary POCIS
Andrew Harris was awarded Life Membership in recognition of his
contribution to Harman RLFC over the years, which saw him join
an elite group of individuals honoured in this fashion over the
club’s 39 year history.
Harman RLFC congratulates all winners, players and supporters. The
club welcomes any new personnel posting to the Canberra area prior
to and during season 2004.
