Wanted:
Defence Force Triathletes to compete in the worlds best sporting
festival, the Noosa Olympic Distance Triathlon.
On
Nov 2, 03 the Australian Services Triathlon Association (ASTA)
with the help of our sponsors will provide Race Singlets valued
at $ 45 free of charge to all members of the ADF who compete in
this race.
This year up to 3,500 triathletes will take to the water as individuals
or as team members for the 1.5-km swim,
40-km cycle and 10 km run. The field will consist of novice triathletes
to the professionals, with each person racing for their own personal
reasons.
A novice or first timer might be simply happy to cross the finish
line some 3 1/2 hours later, the professionals will be looking
towards the Olympic Games in 2004.
Triathlon is the only sport in the world where a novice can line
up against their heroes and walk away saying they kept up with
their hero for the first 10 metres of the race.
I was lucky enough to have been in that situation and the feeling
you get from standing beside a great like Brad Bevan, turning
to him and saying good luck mate and shaking his hand is a memory
you just cannot buy.
The Noosa Triathlon gives all members of the Defence Force an
opportunity to compete with the best. You can form a team with
your friends or try the race as an individual.
No matter where you finish, you will come way with the feeling
of satisfaction of achieving your goals.
All members who intend to enter this race should contact WO2 Greg
Young on (02) 96004266 or by email to greg.young2@defence.gov.au
to register for the team.
The team will assemble at 1600hr on Saturday November 1 in the
Registration area in the Big Top, Noosa Triathlon Festival Village.
The team uniforms will be given out at this time and all members
will be required to be in the team photo. The team manager is
CAPT Dave Little; he can be contacted on (07) 33326133.
