Shaun proves golden

POETSM Shaun Guppy
POETSM Shaun Guppy

POETSM Shaun Guppy has had a big year of Rugby.

After the 2003 ASRU tour, Shaun was approached by the assistant coaches of Perth Gold, the state Rugby Union representative team, to attend training and join the squad.

Perth Gold competes in the Bundaberg Rum Australian Rugby Shield.

In his first week, Shaun was brought into the team and came off the bench against Darwin.

Not only did he score a try but Perth Gold won 48-0. Shaun played the next game, the semi final, against the Melbourne Axemen, Perth Gold winners 29-10.

Although Sean did not play the final, Perth went on to win, 41-12 against Queensland Country. Sean also played for Rockingham in the district grand final.

LS Jason Harrington has also had a busy year, playing with both RANRU/ASRU and then QLD Country (who played Shaun Guppy's Perth Gold in the Bundy Rum Final).

Jason played four games for QLD Country, the first against Darwin, winning 38 to 24 and the next in Melbourne against Bundaberg, winning 39 to 19. QLD Country played NSW Country in the semi final in Dubbo, with QLD beating NSW for only the third time in 38 years.

Jason and the team then travelled to Perth to play Perth Gold at Perry Lakes. They went down 14 to 41.
