Were
the Green Team, and were here to help.
Thats the message the Submarine Sea Training Group (SM STG)
wants to get out to all submariners.
Two STG members, CPOMTSM Richard Wombat Lowe and CPOCISSM
Paul Dickson, briefed the Submarine FEG Forum on the groups
activities so far this year.
While CPO Lowe admitted the team could be a hassle
for submarine crews, its main aim is to prepare them to an extremely
high level of professionalism, with that training being amply
illustrated with the HMAS Dechaineux emergency in February.
CPO Dickson said the team was looking at getting more involved
with simulator training so that more of the hair pulling
stuff could take place ashore.
There should be major spin-offs with everyone hopefully
getting a good baseline and being more prepared for the challenges
at sea, CPO Dickson said.
CPO Dickson said STGs job was not to hinder or harass, but
to encourage crew members to ask questions if they were not sure
of what was required of them.
We are there to advise and assist, he said.
Meanwhile, CPO Dickson said a major rewrite of RANSSOs was taking
part and urged everyone interested to participate in the review
process.
The STG focussed much of its energy on resolving the flexible
hose issue earlier this year, but is now starting to provide more
operational advice and assistance.
