Father
of the Year and TV Scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki visited the
RANs latest warship, HMAS Parramatta (CMDR Mike Noonan)
alongside Sydneys Garden Island.
Dr Kruszelnicki presents scientific and theory training videos
for the Navys Video Unit on topics including sonar theory,
ship stability, laser safety awareness, radio frequency radiation
and communications technology.
Karl was keenly interested in Parramatta, which was commissioned
on October 4.
I was particularly impressed with the air of competence
of the staff as well as their willingness to seek further guidance
from more senior staff as needed.
They also demonstrated very skilled use of quality tools
such as Stahlwillies, he said.
SBLT David Murphy escorted Karl during his visit in which he remarked
on special features of the ship - Karl was delighted at
the size and compactness of the jet engine which powers the ship
through the water at a speed of 30 knots working reliably.
Dr Kruszelnicki rounded off his naval visit with a tour of HMAS
Watson.
He visited the Bridge Simulator and a Combat Systems Tactical
Trainer; a replica of an Anzac Operations Room designed to train
Principal Warfare Officers.
Again, Karl was favourably impressed with the software/hardware
and personnel he observed.
The level of technology is magnificent and of world class
standard, he said.
