Three
RAN pilots were amongst the latest group of ADF pilots to graduate
from Number 2 Flying Training School, RAAF Pearce, in Western
Australia.
LEUT Joshua Carey, LEUT Ben Scorey and SBLT Mathew Seymour and
eleven RAAF pilots were awarded wings at a graduation
ceremony for 195 Pilots Course.
At just nineteen, SBLT Seymour, from Brisbane, has achieved a
major life goal by following in the military aviation footsteps
of his grandfather, SQNLDR Robert Seymour (Ret). SQNLDR Seymour
was a RAAF pilot during WWII who completed his time in service
as CO 43 SQN flying Catalina aircraft.
Matts interest in flying developed after listening to the
stories of his Grandfathers time during the war. But the
family influence didnt end there.
Matts brother, LEUT Edward Seymour, a Seaman Officer aboard
HMAS Melbourne influenced his decision on which service to join.
It was LEUT Seymours description of his Navy career as an
excellent job which, despite being hard work was a lot of fun,
that guided Matt into deciding a Naval aviation career was the
best combination.
Also graduating were LEUTs Joshua Carey and Ben Scorey. Prior
to undertaking pilots course, Carey served as an airfield
engineer in the RAAF. Twenty five-year-old Scorey, an ADFA graduate,
trained as an Observer before undertaking his pilot training.
LEUT Scorey was among the award winners for 195 Pilots Course.
He received the Western Australian RAAF Associations award
for most improved on course. Reviewing Officer for
the graduation parade was Chief of Air Force, Air Marshall Angus
Houston.
