A
routine delivery task turned into an adventure for Brunei when
she made a call on the coastal village of Teop in Bougainville.
A tent identified as surplus to requirements was gifted to the
village by the Peace Monitoring Group. The tent was to cover the
village well to protect the valuable fresh water.
The erection of the tent saw the whole village turned out to watch
the combined efforts of the sailors and village men converting
the lumps of canvas and piles of pipe into a functioning shelter
for the extremely important water supply.
The stokers also patched up some old water tanks which doubled
the village storage capacity.
The village was delighted with the efforts of their men and the
sailors who left Teop with the satisfaction of a job well done.

The
end of Op Bel Isi resulted in recreational equipment that was
excess to requirements.
Among the treasures was a two-man plastic canoe that caught the
eye of Bruneis ships company.
ABSN Paul Crockford applied a coat of ships side grey and the
pennant number L127.1. The canoe easily passed sea acceptance
trials and is now a welcome part of the ships recreational
equipment.

Damian Jones got more than he bargained for during a visit
to Teop Village when he came face to face with the village
pig. The animal took a liking to Damian and followed him
like a puppy. It was a heartbreaking moment for the young
swine when he was left on the beach when Damian had to return
to his ship.
