LEUT Stuart Cayzer has been selected in the Australian Country
Hockey Squad.
In a significant feat for the ADF Hockey Association, the mens
team recently participated in the Australian Country Hockey Championships
- a competition only two steps away from international level.
Team manager WO2 Scott Downs said although the team performed
admirably, the men were unable to secure a victory against any
of the State teams in attendance.
Because of current deployments and injury, some players
originally selected were unable to attend, he said.
The developing ADF squad was never played off the pitch,
and apart from a poor game against eventual victors NSW, was competitive
in every game until the final whistle.
The team spirit didnt waver throughout the competition.
LEUT Cayzer impressed selectors and was named in the Australian
squad following the grand final.
ADF Best and Fairest was LT Scott Lehman and CFN Kent Moores was
named Most Improved for the tournament.
WO2 Downs said the 2004 championship would be hosted by the ADF
at their home ground in Adelaide.
Operational commitments prevented the ADF fielding a womens
team this year, however, a womens team will compete in 2004.
The current Australian Country Coach, Rod Whitlock, will
be taking on the mens and womens squads for the 2004
championship and the ADF Hockey Association is looking forward
to the tournament with great anticipation.
