When CPOMT Mac Piec and his workmates at FIMA-Sydney heard that
they could shrug off their blue navy work coveralls and don gaudy
shirts to raise money for charity, they jumped at the opportunity.
The Loud Shirt Day was in aid of the Shepherd Centre in Sydney,
which helps deaf and hearing-impaired children learn to listen and
speak.
Monique Ryan from the centre said, The centre receives no
recurrent government funding and so we are pleased when organisations
can assist.
On Loud Shirt Day we encourage everyone to wear their loudest,
brightest or craziest shirt or tie and make a donation to the centre.
We expect to raise $50,000 in NSW.
CPO Piec and his workmates also held a barbecue on the day and raised
$135 for the charity.
It was a great fun day and helped us all appreciate the work
done by the Shepherd Centre, said CPO Piec.
If your ship or unit would like to have a Loud Shirt Day then contact
Monique Ryan on (02) 9351 7885 or www.loudshirtday.com.au.
