HMAS Warrnambool sailor, Leading Seaman Marine Technical Michael Zupp, has won the inaugural Patrol Boat Group (PBGRP) Achievement Award.

The award was recently presented to LS Zupp by the Commander Australian Navy Patrol Boat Group, CAPT Frank Kresse, at a ceremony held in the FIMA Darwin conference room attended by personnel from across the PBGRP.

LS Zupp’s CO, LCDR Mark Sorby, hailed his achievement as justly deserved recognition of his tremendous dedication and exceptional performance particularly in preparing the ship for recent Work-up and ORE.

LCDR Sorby said that LS Zupp was the consummate Patrol Boat sailor who personified many of the admirable qualities of RAN sailors, with his commendable “can do” attitude, reliability and loyalty.

In making the presentation to LS Zupp, CAPT Kresse said that the occasion was an important one, being the inaugural presentation of the award. He said that it was particularly satisfying for him, as the PBGRP Commander, to now be able to personally recognise the many outstanding and dedicated members who contribute to the PBGRP goals.

Having received the award, LS Zupp said that he was honoured and very flattered to be chosen as the first recipient of the award. He said, “I didn’t expect the award but it was nice to be given this recognition.”

LS Zupp received a framed certificate and an engraved Leatherman as a momento. He also has his name placed on an Honour Board displayed in the foyer of the PBGRP HQ.
