The Commanding Officer, CMDR Mike Noonan summed it up: Shes
ours.
The builder, Tenix, had just formally delivered the seventh Anzac
Class frigate and the fourth to bear the name Parramatta, to the RAN.
The signing of the delivery certificate in a ceremony on the flight
deck of Parramatta on June 20, officially put the ship into the proud
hands of her RAN ships company.
This marks a very important occasion for us, teamwork is a very
important word, CMDR Noonan said following the ceremony on June
20.
We are well on the road, and we look forward to the next step,
a fighting unit of the RAN.
CMDR Noonan added: We have a long way to go but we will do it
and we will do it well.
Director General Major Surface Ships, CDRE Trevor Ruting, signed the
delivery certificate on behalf of the Commonwealth while Tenix Group
Managing Director, Mr Paul Salteri, signed on behalf of the company.
It is a very significant event taking a new ship for the Commonwealth
and the RAN, CDRE Ruting said.
I thank my team from the Anzac Ship Management Office and Tenix.
Parramatta has continued the ever-increasing Anzac ships trend
of getting better and better every time.
Thanks to Tenix, you are doing a great job with this,
CDRE Ruting said.
Mr Salteri described the occasion as happy and sad: a great privilege
to be delivering Anzac ship number seven, but this meant this delivery
moved the project towards the end of the 10 ship program.
He congratulated all involved in preparing Parramatta for delivery.
Signing of the TI 338 in the Nelson House theatrette preceded the
ceremony while further delivery certificates were signed later.
Other key appointments in attendance included Director RAN Test and
Evaluation Acceptance Authority, CAPT Daryl Bates, and Tenix Anzac
Ship Project Director, Mr Jerry Trammel.
A further highlight of the ceremony was Tenix employee Mr David Morse,
continuing his tradition of presenting a ships bell rope to
each Anzac ship.
This one, presented to the CO, incorporated all the symbolism for
Parramatta: the Queens crown for Her Majestys jubilee
year; seven strands for Anzac ship seven, five strands at the bottom
for the fifth Australian Anzac ship, the ships colours, and
the Turks head.
Parramatta is due to commission in Sydney on October 4. |
