Reserve forces to march

Reservists from five nations will take to the streets of Sydney on Sunday July 6, for the annual Reserve Forces Day National Parade. More than 3,000 personnel accompanied by several bands (one flown out especially from the US Navy), will step off from College Street at 11.30am.

Moving into Macquarie Street they will salute the Governor of NSW, Professor Marie Bashir and the Chief of Army, LTGEN Peter Leahy.

The marchers will disperse north of the Cahill Expressway and move to re-union sites around the city.

A day earlier, Saturday, July 5, more than 1000 Reservists are expected to march through the streets of Newcastle.
This march will begin at 10.40am at Watt Street and follow the foreshore to disperse outside the Naval cadet training ship TS Tobruk.

The National Chairman of the Reserve Forces Day Council, Sir Laurence Street will take the salute.

StateRail has put an extra two carriages on an early morning train to accommodate 300 Reservists planning to travel from Sydney to the Newcastle march. A combined re-union will take place in the Railway Sheds at Newcastle.

Other activities around the country include:

  • Perth - a Tri-Services commemorative service will be held at Kings Park from 9am with military displays and band.
  • Adelaide - a Tri-Service display will be held in the Rundle Mall from 10 am till 1 pm. There will also be a performance by the 10th/27th Battalion Royal South Australia Regiment Band
  • Melbourne - a march will take participants from the Princes Bridge at 10am to the Shrine of Remembrance, St Kilda Road at 10.30am. The march will be followed by a Defence Open Day at Victoria Barracks, St Kilda Road
