Eden facility to complete in September

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Fran Bailey, has announced that construction of the navy ammunitioning facility at Twofold Bay is scheduled for completion in September this year.

The facility comprises a 200-metre multi-purpose wharf, a dredged berth, a dual lane 560-metre long jetty between the wharf and the shore, an access road between the shore and the existing Edrom Road, a land-based depot comprising armament transit and storage facilities, and supporting infrastructure located approximately 15 kilometres inland from the wharf.

The project has been a significant boon for the Eden and Bega Valley regions, creating 112 local jobs and potentially attracting an additional $5m of private investment into the region.

The project protects the environment and heritage of the site.

Navy will use the wharf between 45 and 70 days a year. At other times it will be made available for commercial use. Locals will have access when it’s not being used except for five days a year when the local indigenous community will have exclusive use.
