Friday
March 28 saw the mobilisation of simulated forces responding to
hostilities in the imaginary Free Nation of Mulga. The Medical
School - Cerberus students provided medical support to the activity
called Exercise Diplomat (traditionally called Realtime) at HMAS
Cerberus.
From
the moulage room there were a variety of different injuries for
the students to manage in a range of scenarios.
These
scenarios included an exercise gunshot incident aboard the simulator
Shoalhaven, multiple casualties from an explosion within the simulator
Supply, and a man overboard, all at the seamanship school at Cerberus.
The casualties within Supply were triaged, provided first aid
and moved to an improvised Port Medical Facility (PMF) for stabilisation
prior to evacuation to an appropriate facility.
The
purpose of the exercise was the final assessment of Leading Seaman
Medical Course (LSMC) 02/02. Petty Officers Kyra Puttifoot and
Chris Vanderstoel, and Leading Seamen Trish MacDonnell and Chris
Bryant were assessed in Advanced Medical Procedures, and command
and control taught on course.
The
students worked into the night and early morning. For their hard
work, they graduated from the course on April 1.
