Supplements: Where have you served?
By
Pat Laria
The Defence Tax Management Office (DTMO) has prepared both the Bougainville
and Solomon Islands Tax Supplements (Supplements) which
are based on advice from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and
the Defence Personnel Executive (DPE).
They are based on tax legislation current at the time of publication.
These Supplements are to assist Australian Defence Force (ADF) members
who have served, are serving, or will be serving in the above countries
to identify taxation exemptions available to them.
The Supplements should be used in conjunction with the current Australian
Taxation Office TaxPack and related publications. Supplements are
to be used by ADF members as a general guide only and are not able
to be used as a legal authority in the event of any dispute between
a Defence employee and the ATO.
An electronic version of the Supplements and other tax supplements
for other countries may be accessed using the following intranet
hyperlink:

The DTMO provides an e-mail and telephone hotline service to ADF
members with queries relating specifically to the Supplements. Inquiries
can be forwarded to this e-mail address: Taxation.Management@defence.gov.au.
If you do not have access to an e-mail facility, you can contact
DTMO during business hours in Australia (AEST) on freecall 1800
806 053. The DTMO does not provide personal taxation advice. If
employees require advice on personal taxation matters they should
contact their tax adviser.
