Seven Navy Australian footballers and three Navy support staff have gained selection in the ADF All Stars national side following the national championships last week.

The ADF side will take on a combined Police/Fire Service side in a curtain-raiser to the Sydney Swans AFL match against Melbourne on ANZAC Day at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

A 50 per cent discount on ticket prices to the match is available for all Defence personnel and their families, with seating allocated in a special Defence area. The cost is $11.50 for adults and $23 for families (two adults and two children).

The curtain-raiser kicks off at 3.50pm and it is hoped by officials within the AFL and Australian Services Australian Football Association (ASAFA) that the match becomes an annual fixture.

“This is a great opportunity for Defence Australian rules players and is an appropriate venue to acknowledge the contributions of the Australian Defence Forces on ANZAC Day,” said ASAFA chairman BRIG Brian Dawson.

“We hope this will become an annual tradition in Sydney,” said CEO of the AFL Wayne Jackson.

Players will compete for the AFL Services Challenge Cup.

Army had 13 players and two support staff in the 30-man squad, with Air Force gaining four players.
