A football match to honour the memory of a sailor tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident earlier this year was held at HMAS Stirling on September 18.

The match, called the Matthew Bently Cup Challenge, named in honour of FIMA-Perth sailor LSMT Matthew Bently, was played between FIMA, where Matthew had worked for at least 12 months, and STSC, where he hoped to pursue a career in the submarine squadron.

Event organiser POCIS-SM Ryan Bidgood said it was hoped the match would become an annual event between the two organisations.

FIMA-Perth won the game, with a final score of 89 points to 38.

The game was an evenly matched affair in the first quarter with STSC opening the scoring, but the youth and fitness of the FIMA side enabled it to set up a comfortable win.

Best player for FIMA was ABMT Damien Tanaka, while best for STSC was LSAWASM Jan Crawford.
