Roxley McLennan presents LCDR Annette Nelson with her commendation.
|
LCDR Annette Nelson has been rewarded for her efforts in establishing
the new ADF Alcohol Management Program (ADFAMP).
She was awarded a Defence Personnel Executive commendation for her
contribution to ADFAMP, which was recently launched as part of the
ADF Mental Health Strategy.
The program, which aims to manage alcohol abuse and misuse in the
three services, includes education, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation
services. As well, all members on duty can now expect to be alcohol
tested at any time on a random basis.
The problems associated with alcohol abuse in the ADF are not new,
but with the introduction of this management program, a more proactive
approach is being taken to provide a safer workplace to enhance
the well-being of all ADF members.
Through her work, LCDR Nelson has promoted the responsible use of
alcohol within the ADF and has advanced the merits of a consistent
approach to alcohol management across the three services.
Since joining the RAN in 1981, LCDR Nelson has become an alcohol
and drug program advisor, spending the last three years working
on the drug and alcohol management program. She has two brothers
in the RAN, WOETW Willy Nelson and LCDR Andrew Nelson.
