UN Day celebrates in Brisbane

The United Nations Association, the Australian Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Association, and the Australian Federal Police will host this year’s United Nations Day Ceremony in Brisbane on October 24. This year’s ceremony will begin at 11am in the Gardens of Anzac Square, between Ann and Adelaide Streets.

Committee member Federal Agent Irene Menhinnitt said: “The day is not limited to military and police peacekeepers, but is open to everyone who has served with the United Nations in any capacity.

“We encourage everyone to come along and celebrate this very important day. It is a day when we remember not only the excellent work done by Australians but importantly those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of freedom and peace in the world.”

She said that without the contributions of personnel from the defence forces, police, government and non-government agencies as well as civilians from around the world, the United Nations would be unable to carry out it’s valuable work.

Dress for the day should include full medals as appropriate. Blue Beret members are encouraged to wear their beret.”
