Men to defend national title

The Navy men’s soccer team will aim to defend its National Inter-Service title at the 2002 carnival at Randwick Barracks from November 11-15.

Once the minnows of Defence soccer, Navy has come of age with an attacking and entertaining brand of soccer.
Helping the cause this year will be the return of up to nine players who recently toured Vietnam with the ADF Combined Services Soccer Team.

“Quality youngsters coming through Cerberus, combined with the wise heads of the current team should prove to be the catalyst for another strong Navy men’s side,” said RAN Soccer Federation president LEUT Paul Denneny.

The women’s side is primed for a successful tournament as well, having won it several times during recent years.
“Traditionally the female team is always hard to beat and hopefully that will prove the case again this year,” said Navy spokesman LSMT Rodney Pippin.
