A very
large leopard came a prowling to the Garden Island dockyard
in Sydney the other day.
She was there to allow her to see at night.
She is to be the reference vehicle for the design and installation
of a thermal imaging unit that will give her night fighting capability.
The vehicle is to get the Thales Optronics Catherine FC
device.
ADI is a Transfield-Thales company. ADIs staff on Garden Island
have the job of designing and installing the equipment. The two
phase development and installation will cost $36million, ADIs
optronics manager, Peter Richards said.
Phase 1 should be completed mid 2003 and the total contract
by the end of 2004, Mr Richards said.
Mr Richards said the remaining vehicles will be fitted with the
device wherever they are based.
